Workshop on Caregiver Mental Health at Jyoti Special School, Rishikesh

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day Manas Mitra jointly conducted a mental health awareness program-cum-workshop for the parents (caregivers) of specially-abled children with Jyoti Special School, Rishikesh in the school premises on 10th October 2022.

The following sessions were conducted during the workshop:

1) Importance of mental health of caregivers and the vision of Manas Mitra -conducted jointly by Dhananjay Kumar (Dharmaraj Das) & Aman Batish (Ajit Das), both co-founders of Manas Mitra

2) Lessons from Ayurveda for better mental health & Yoga for stress relief -conducted by Ms. Anshika Verma, Doctoral Research Scholar in Yogic Sciences and member of Team Manas Mitra

3) Bhagavad Gita’s wisdom for happiness & well being -conducted by Dhananjay Kumar (H.G. Dharmaraj Das)

The event got a very enthusiastic response -more than 50 caregiver parents participated in the workshop. The teachers, especially Mrs. Kamlesh Bhatia (Principal), made untiring and commendable efforts to encourage the parents to participate.

The parents were made aware of the importance of their own mental health and strategies for coping with the stress and burden of caregiving were discussed. Tips for day-to-day living from Yoga and Ayurveda to improve mental health and well being were shared with the participants. Spiritual Wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita was discussed as part of religious coping strategy for stress relief.

Refreshments were provided to the participants during the sessions and the talk sessions were followed by Lunch (Prasadam) arranged with the help of Madhuban Ashram, Rishikesh for all the participants and school staff. All the members of Team Manas Mitra contributed with zeal in providing external and backend support, especially Mukul Sharma (Mukunda) and his team of volunteers.

The participants were very satisfied and felt benefited by the workshop and expressed interest in having more such events in the future.
