Team Manas Mitra visited Sambal Special School being run by the National Award winning NGO Kalyanam Karoti in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on 4th July 2022.
It was heartening to see the good work being done by the dedicated and hard working team of this NGO for people with disabilities of a wide spectrum ranging from Hearing Impairment (HI), Visual Impairment (VI), Physical Disability and especially for the education of Children with special needs such as those suffering from Developmental Disorders like Autism, Down Syndrome; Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, HI, VI etc.
The services being provided by the NGO include:
Training Institute for Teachers for special education for specific impairment needs like VI & HI etc.
Sambal Special School for children with special needs with segment specific facilities for hearing and speech therapy etc. for these specially-abled children
Assessment of capabilities and degree of disability certification
A workshop for making prosthetic limbs
Hospitals and mobile healthcare units with programs specially for Eye Care and blindness prevention
The campus is well maintained and well organized with dedicated space for each activity. The services being provided and the infrastructure facilities are of a good standard.
Stationery was distributed to all the students of Sambal Special School by Team Manas Mitra.
The interaction with the students, faculty and staff was very beneficial in understanding the nitty-gritties of running such a facility.
The interaction with Mrs. Anamika Sharma was especially fruitful as she provided much needed insight into the needs and challenges of working in this domain.
